Configuring a Free DDNS
Dynamic DNS (DDNS or DynDNS) is a method of automatically updating a name server in the Domain Name System (DNS), often in real time, with the active DDNS configuration of its configured hostnames, addresses or other information.Use:
If you do not have a static public IP, but you want access your local resource, server, CCTV from outside world then you have to use ddns service.
There are multiple providers like dyn.com , noip.com etc, But these are paid ddns provider. If you want to go for free then you can use dyndns.co.za .
Prerequisite:
1. Internet connection with a configurable modem.
2. Modem username & password.
3. PC or Mobile with browser.
4. A email id (to activate ddns service)
Step 1
i> Open dyndns.co.za in your browserii> Click on Self register.
iii> In the registration screen fill all the fields.
Note: Username/Hostname is important, remember it or note it down, since this will be used in all the places.
iii> Please check your email which you are filled in registration form. You will receive a activation link from dyndns.co.za, click on the link & activate your account.
Step 2
i> Now login to your modem from the browser.v> Once you login you find Network Application / Network Configuration (this will vary in different modem models .
vi> Under Network Application select DDNS configuration / setting .
Service Provider : gnudip
Host Name : www.dyndns.co.za
Service Port : 3459
Domain name: <your dyndns username>.dyndns.co.za (eg tarz is my username so tarz.dyndns.co.za will be my domain name)
Username: your dyndns username
Password: your dyndns password
Apply the changes.
Step 3
i> Open dyndns.co.za , login with your username & password (domain name is dyndns.co.za) Note: Make sure you logged in from the same network of your modem
ii> select first go button.
Thats it... Now login to your modem & do port forwarding as like static ip.
Instead of your static ip you need use <dyndns username>.dyndns.co.za , ie in my case tarz.dyndns.co.za.
